Bro. Arwin and Sis. Amy Calansanan are our new ministry volunteers in Kapatid Ministry beginning this year, 2023. Both were Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for many years, with Malaysia being the most recent country where they last worked until 2019. We met them in Malaysia where they are committed ministry volunteers in the Filipino congregation in Kuala Lumpur Baptist Church (KLBC). Now, they are in the Philippines, committed to serve the Lord in Kapatid Ministry. Bro. Arwin and Sis. Amy are focused primarily on building and strengthening partnerships with the local churches as well as our ministry supporters. This is their story:
Returning to the Philippines
We have been Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for decades and in early 2019 God called us to come back to the Philippines to do His ministry, this entails giving up our work in Malaysia. We are not sure of His plans, however we are sure that we are called. We have been used in a church at Negros Oriental for 3 years and then again God has imparted to us that He is once again sending us.
Considering Kapatid Ministry
In our years in Malaysia, we have had the privilege to work alongside Bro. Titus and Sis. Beth Laxa of Kapatid Ministry in various ministries and most parts of it were the Bible Study and Church Planting in Genting for Filipinos working in Genting Highlands. There were times we were in awe of how Bro. Titus finds this group of Filipinos who were not able to attend church or bible studies, and then he would inspire our Pastor and us to reach out to them. We have seen firsthand the heart of this couple in the mission field, and this inspired us until today. Even though we are back in the Philippines, Pastor Ronald (our pastor in the Filipino congregation in KLBC) remains our confidant, mentor, and prayer partner. During the times when we were uncertain about where God was leading us after Negros Oriental, Pastor Ronald was there for us, praying for us. In one of our conversations with him, it was mentioned how lovely it would be to work with Kapatid Ministry, one of the people who inspired us to be in the mission field. Now, here we are with Kapatid Ministry, Inc.
Our Prayers and Hope
Being with KMI since December 2022, we have come to realize how vast the ministry field in the Philippines is and that we have seen the works of the Lord through KMI. As we see how vast the field is, indeed, we can say that the harvest is truly plentiful but the workers are few. With this, we pray that each and every one of us will be part of the work in the field - whether you are a goer in the mission field or a sender with your prayers and financial support (for neither is more important than the other; neither is possible without the other). With that said, you don’t need to be rich to reach one and transform one family, one community to be part of God’s great work in the Philippines thru KMI, you need to have a heart, a heart full of compassion like Jesus did when he saved us on that cross.
